Chamberlain Reviews

Excellent home with caring staff.

Relative of a Resident

My friend has had a new lease of life since she moved to Chamberlain Road Nursing Home. Her mobility has improved with the help of the in-house physiotherapists and staff. She now enjoys the exercise classes and particularly loves the quizzes I love taking her to the local shops and cafe's (ice cream is a firm favourite). Her room is bright and sunny and has tasteful decor. She has her own paintings and 'furry friends' and plants to make it feel very homely. The staff are so kind and patient with her and she has benefited greatly from the socialisation that the home provides. The food is beautiful and varied. I am very happy to know that she is in such a safe and nurturing environment. Thank you to all the staff at Chamberlain.

My sister has improved by taking part in exercise classes, quizzes and songs of praise as part of mixing with other residents and staff. She is now able to sit out in a wheelchair and go shopping in near by shops and attend coffee mornings in the local church and church service in her own church. She is being well cared for and safe with kind people looking after her. She has a nice sunny room, facing south with her own pictures on the walls, reclining chair and tv. She is very happy.

I am looked after very well. The staff are very kind to me. I love my new reclining chair, it's great for my back and much more comfortable than the one I brought from home. I'm really enjoying the coffee mornings both in the dining hall and at the local church. I really love the quizzes and exercise classes, they're good fun. I also like Songs of Praise on a Sunday morning, one of the staff members is a beautiful singer. Now I'm at Chamberlain I can get out in my wheelchair with friends and staff to go shopping and to cafes. I'm very happy here.

My mum moved in to Chamberlain Road in mid-July 2025. At the time we felt it would be for end of life care but since arrival the change in her has been amazing. She is so happy & will tell you that she is well cared for, safe, warm & well fed. She loves all of the staff & is joining in in many activities & has even been on a few field trips. I could not be happier with the care my mum recieves. 5 star service across the board. The staff always have time to speak to me & always deal with my queries professionally & diligently.

Son of Resident

I cannot praise all the staff enough. I visit a friend in a nearby care home, which does not compare favourably! Either in food or activities, both of which are extremely important.

Daughter of Resident

My husband and I visited the Chamberlain in August as we were looking for respite care for my Dad. Lindsay met us at the door and was extremely friendly and welcoming. She showed us around the home and the room that they had set aside for Dad and explained the procedures regarding meal times, privacy, social events, etc. We left feeling elated that we had found somewhere that Dad would be happy to live there. All of the staff were amazing and went beyond their roles to ensure that Dad felt as happy as possible. They showered him if he didn't want to shower himself and left him, but were close by, he wanted to shower himself. Lesley is a master in persuading residents to join in the social events. The nurses, Lindsay, Anca, Gabriella and Lilli are all amazing and are there to help and encourage the residents in whatever they want. Dad was very sad to leave, as were we, but he had an amazing experience there and I would wholeheartedly recommend The Chamberlain and all of the staff there.

Daughter of Resident

Conveniently situated for visitors, with warm greetings on arrival from the staff. Staff make sure of understanding English and remembering residents' likes and dislikes. Extremely helpful where I have swallowing difficulties, providing a liquid diet. Need to be cool, calm and collected. Activities are many & various, something for everyone. Rooms are well cleaned every day.

We moved our 95 year old mother to live in Chamberlain Road Nursing Home in July 2024. She lives with advanced dementia but is physically active. Prior to this, she lived at home with 24 hour care. The manager is excellent and demands excellence from all her staff. She listened to what our mum would want for her room. The staff are all friendly and caring and our mum has thrived in their care. They were patient when she kept trying to leave at first and staff often take her out for walks. I really could not rate the home and staff highly enough.

Daughter of Resident/Service User

My Mother required nursing home care from February 2020 to March 2023 when she died. The care she got and the compassion shown by the staff were second to none. The lockdown was an incredibly stressful time, and yet all of the staff were unfailingly helpful and kind throughout this time and again once restrictions were lifted. I would not hesitate to recommend Chamberlain to anyone seeking care for a friend or relative.

Daughter of Resident/Service User

You instantly get a homely feeling when you enter the building. I visited the home for many years and the care, compassion, and friendliness shown to my friend never changed during that time. Every single member of the team contributed to looking after her every need. As a visitor, I was always made more than welcome. Many thanks to the wonderful team.

From the first day that we visited Chamberlian House, we were welcomed by a caring and attentive staff. We have always found the environment and care given to be of the highly quality. There is a genuine interest and attentiveness shown at all times. We have never once been anything but delighted with the service provided.

My mother was in Chamberlayne Road nursing home for 18 months until she died in April 2024. She was very reluctant to go there and was at times quite difficult, but the staff, without exception looked after her extremely well and with respect, and grew to love her despite her idiosyncrasies! An example of the care which touched me very much was that they recognised that she had always enjoyed cooking and collecting recipes. She would discuss the meals with the chef, and he invited her to “help” in the kitchen for a day only 2 weeks before she died. The manager sent us a photo of her that day, looking happier than she had looked for some years. The staff was very kind also to us, her family, and we always felt the respectful love that they gave my mum. She could not have been anywhere better.

Daughter of Resident

My Mum passed away two weeks ago after spending her last 10 months in Chamberlian. From day one she participated in almost all of the activities which she loved. She looked forward to all her meals, varied and delicious. Her room was always cosy and clean and she felt happy and secure there. The staff were not only very caring to her but also to myself, very much a home from home. I cannot fault any of the management or staff, they were so kind right to the very end. Thank you all so very much.

Chamberlain Road has been a godsend to my friend and the perfect place for her to move to since living alone became too difficult. The location is wonderful for shops and cafes and there is parking. This beautiful home is very tastefully decorated and the staff are very friendly and helpful to residents and visitors alike. The manager is so kind and sensitive to all individual needs and takes special interest in all the residents, tailoring activities especially for them. I always feel very welcome and I've got to know many of the staff and nothing is too much trouble for them. There are always activities to get involved in and themed nights where the staff go all out to decorate the public areas and dress up. The menus are amazing and the staff have gone above and beyond to assist my friend with her nutrition. There is a very positive and fun vibe here yet it is also very professional with the latest technology for the resident's safety and comfort. Thank you to all staff.

Friend of Resident

We were both apprehensive when she was to move to a care home - a very big step in anyone's life. However, she has settled in thanks to support of staff and facilities. I can only say well done to all concerned.

Sister of Resident

My friend has been in Chamberlain Road for nine months, she was admitted because her dementia meant living at home became too difficult. She has improved physically and mentally since admission. She benefits greatly from the activities programme and loves to go on minibus trips. The staff of all types are exceptionally kind and caring. She has many visitors who are always made welcome and encouraged to provide the stimulation she needs and to maintain contact with the outside world. In short the home is outstanding and I cannot praise it too highly.

Friend of Resident

Every time I enter the home, I see friendly faces. The staff are smiling and helpful and respectful to residents. There is an amazing programme of activities. It feels like a safe and happy environment, with warmth and care from the top filtering down. I would be happy to be a resident here when the time comes.

Friend of Resident

I am very happy with the care my husband has received over the past year since he moved into the care home. The staff are efficient and caring with regard to both residents and their families. I have been included in all decisions on my husband's care, and communication, in general, is excellent. I appreciated the recent introduction of periodic meetings for the relatives of residents.

Wife of Resident

I had a chance of seeing the Chamberlain Road Nursing Home from the inside and I found it a wonderful place that is ran by the wonderful staff. The residents are looked after by well-trained staff. Residents could join different activities e.g. exercise classes, bingo, crosswords, etc. Once a week the residents are taken to different places to have varied day trips. Which is lovely for them. The food is fresh, all food is prepared daily and residents can request what they would like to eat. They have a lovely chef in the kitchen with a lovey smile. The rooms are clean and spacious with plenty of lighting and high ceilings. They are well decorated and are well looked after. There is a nice garden at the back where residents can sit out on a nice afternoon to enjoy the sun. The unit’s manager is an amazing manger. She cares about every single resident who stays in the home. She always make sure residents get the best quality of care. Her staff are very tremendous at their jobs.

My father was at Chamberlain for just over a year, before passing away there. The staff are so compassionate, loving and caring - and it is the staff who have made this care home the special place it is. We were very impressed with the welcoming, comfortable, clean and well-maintained environment, from the moment Dad moved in. The warmth and sensitivity of the staff make it hard to say 'goodbye'. It's been a real home from home for Dad. Thank you everyone.

I have been here 3 years and have lots of friends in my new home. I feel I have a new chapter in my life. The home is very careful about keeping Covid at bay, often tested and keep to our rooms. Staff are very good and caring. Many have been here a long time. They support each other. The activity team is super, things 3 times a day when in a normal routine. Mounds of lovely food. Their motto should be 'you're not allowed to get hungry'. I'm a happy resident.

Resident

All my mother's needs are promptly taken care of. This includes clothing, toiletries, spectacles and dental care. The infections that she was prone to when being cared for in her own home have occurred with much less frequency. Food is fresh and appropriate. The control of Covid in the home has been exemplary. Staff are helpful and cheerful.

Son of Resident

I cannot speak too highly about Chamberlain. My mother has now been a resident for almost two years, and remains mentally alert, but registered blind. Any move from independent living to life in a care home is challenging, but Chamberlain staff have respected my mother’s early desire to continue to be as independent as possible, gradually moving to give her the extra care as it has become needed. Her room is spectacular, a large Edinburgh public room with a chandelier! However, it is the staff who make Chamberlain the special place that it is. Superbly led, they are all friendly, kitchen staff as well as care staff, and provide important companionship during each day. There is a range of activities provided each week which my mother participates in, and she feels included despite her lack of eyesight. The home is infinitely flexible as regards food. My mother prefers to have her meals served in her room, enjoying the peace and privacy, and requests such as “extra spinach” are met with grace!.

My aunt stayed in Chamberlain Road Nursing Home for just over two years, she was treated with the utmost respect and the care given was not just in a personal level, but it allowed her to maintain her independent spirit until the end.

The whole staff are to be thanked for the amazing care and attention to detail, not just for my aunt, but the care and respect we received on each occasion we visited. They also acted in a compassionate and professional manner throughout the whole Covid pandemic. Thanks again.

This is an outstanding care home. Everyone works together to make it a happy and friendly environment for residents and visitors. This is due in no small part to the manager. It is always welcoming and a pleasure to visit. Many thanks to all.

Friend of Resident

Can I start by saying how delighted my sister and I were to read that Janet had put about a stone since coming to live in your care. When I visited yesterday, I could see the weight gain in her face, and in her hands. We know that is no mean feat - she had got so skinny in hospital. So a huge thank you to everyone's thoughtfulness in helping her this far, and may it continue a little longer!

I was reflecting last night how relaxed Janet was when I visited, and how happy she was to be with you. She said how fortunate she had been to be with you, during this pandemic, completely unbidden. Her room looked so calm and peaceful, and when we were chatting about it, she said how she loved the way that all her pictures had been hung by your handyman so that she could see them all. I was there when he was hanging most of them, and her joy in the care he had taken had not faded, a year later.

There used to be an almost desperation to hold my hand, at the tail end of her time at home, which lasted till lockdown as she had not yet relaxed into your care, although we had relaxed, on her behalf, knowing you from before. But that desperation had completely gone when I saw her yesterday. You have all been meeting that need in her so beautfully- helped along too by the tactile physio sessions and the carer who does her nails, who got a special mention from Janet.

Niece of Resident

The care at Chamberlain is quite exceptional and the staff look after my every need. The work has been particularly difficult for them this year with all the pandemic restrictions, but they have continued to support me cheerfully throughout. I am truly grateful to them all and I am appreciative of all they do for me.

Resident

This care home is absolutely excellent. The staff are uniformly outstanding. My mother is being cared for with great genuine compassion and skill. We could not have asked for better. Thank you to all at this care home!

The staff in Chamberlain have not only cared for my mother superbly over the last four years, they have shown a kindness and affection which has been amazing. Their communication with me as a relative was always good and we couldn't have asked for more from anyone.

I’ve been volunteering weekly in Chamberlain Road Nursing Home for the 3 years and think it is a wonderful care home. There are a few things that led me to this opinion:

  1. The residents I’ve got to know all enjoy living there.
  2. The staff have always been extremely friendly to me and I’ve only ever seen them behaving in the same way towards residents. They are approachable and always happy to help.
  3. The care home is in good condition and is always clean.
  4. There are lots of activities and events on offer for residents to join in with. These include trips to nice coffee shops, watching strictly come dancing (and other similar weekly programmes), festive events and creative workshops. These are completely optional and attendance by residents is highly variable but I think residents largely enjoy them when they do attend.

My stepfather lived at Chamberlain Road Nursing Home for 16 months until his death peacefully at the home. The staff were great at helping him settle in and to cope with the death of my mother and the immense loneliness that came with it. He settled in much faster than I expected and I think considered many of the staff to be friends and not just carers. I visited him frequently and was invariably welcomed and made to feel as if I was in his home, occasionally staying for a meal - lovely food. Staff turnover is low. It does feel more like a real home than many other care homes do and I am so glad it was there for my stepfather when he needed it.

Stepdaughter of resident

The home and its facilities are excellent in every respect, but it is the staff who make this home exceptional. The management is professional through and through, the staff are highly trained - as one would hope for and expect - but they all bring genuine kindness, compassion and respect to those in their care and their families. It has been a constant reassurance to know that my wife is safe and extremely well cared for and that is because the staff inspire such confidence and trust. I cannot praise them or thank them enough for the way in which they not only look after my wife but also show such care and understanding to me and my family.

My mother-in- law lived here for the last 5 years. She was a very independent lady and it was only her failing sight at aged 97 that compromised her ability to care for herself. The staff were very tactful in the way they kept her sense of independence whilst managing her increasing need for care. The low turnover of staff meant that she was able to make long-lasting friendships with the nurses and carers, who were also able to plan and anticipate her care needs well. In the last 18 months, my mother-in-law developed vascular dementia, which Chamberlain staff managed with skill and tender care. My mother-in-law died aged 103 peacefully and with dignity. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and supportive to us all.

My mother now 101 has been in Chamberlain Road Nursing Home since January 2010, this is now eight years. I have always been very pleased indeed with the professional care she has received, changing and adjusting over the years, and I have been especially grateful for the real quality of care in the true sense that she has had at Chamberlain, as I am her only child and have to be away for months at a time. I always know mum is safe and happy.

My mother lived and as cared for at Chamberlain Care Home for the last two and a half years. She has always been looked after in a respectful, dignified and personal way. Her vegan diet has been catered for and she was encouraged and enabled to personalise her room as much as she wished. As a visitor I have always been welcomed and the staff have always made themselves available to discuss any issues.

Of particular note has been my mothers end of life care which I was very happy with and made this time much easier to cope with.

We are delighted with the care being given to our relative - from the wonderful welcome, consideration during the settling in period and professional and meticulous attention to our relatives personal and care needs. A homely, caring and delightful place.

My mother has been resident for 4 months since discharge from hospital. She has settled in very well and seems very happy and well cared for. Visitors are welcome at all times and the staff are always friendly, caring and helpful.

I am always welcomed and acknowledged when I go to see my mother. I am asked if I would like tea or coffee. Nothing is any trouble to any of the staff. My mother gets on well with staff.

You run an extremely efficient care home which I describe to my patients as the Rolls Royce of care homes. I shall miss going there to visit.

Recently retired local G.P.

We just wanted to say how much we appreciated the care given to my mother over the 3 years she was at Chamberlain.

We have been so impressed by the care. There were, on a daily basis, so many acts of kindness, small and large, from so many of your staff.

Throughout her stay we were met with unfailing courtesy, always made to feel welcome, and it was a constant source of comfort to know that whatever else we had to worry about, it was not the quality of my mother`s care.

Looking after the elderly, especially in their final years is a very tough job for which there is not nearly enough recognition, and we would like to pay tribute to the prefessional, caring approach shown by your staff.

Anonymous

Could you please pass on my thanks to all of the staff for the care that they afforded Lena Tannett. We are of course very sad to lose our oldest patient; I have a photo of Lena and myself at her 102nd birthday party in my room which patients often comment on and can`t believe when I say that it was a few years ago.

The care she had with you was quite superb; I am sure that this was one of the reasons that she lived so long.

Dr Michael Cash (Bruntsfield Medical Practice)

For Mary, leaving her own home was perhaps the hardest thing she had to do in her entire life. It was hugely important to me - as her friend and welfare attorney - that you and your staff understood her grief over this loss of independence. You worked very hard in difficult circumstances to maintain her individuality, her personality and her relationships. Over the past two and a half years, I have had many opportunities to see how your colleagues work together and how they relate to the residents at Chamberlain. Professionalism, dedication and commitment are words you no doubt hear often. The quality of care given by staff at all levels has been simply wonderful.

R M, Merchiston Avenue

We would like to convey to you all, our deep appreciation for the outstanding care that you provided to our grandmother during her stay with you. As we saw during our visits, her surroundings were comfortable, the atmosphere friendly, the staff professional and patient. On top of that, we all felt that she was being looked after by people who understood and treated her as an individual, giving her dignity and providing respect and friendship.

We are very grateful for the care which the staff of Chamberlain provided for Peggy during her last 10 months. When it became clear that Peggy would require to leave her own home, I carried out an exhaustive process to find accommodation in which I believed Peggy would be as happy as possible and would be well cared for. There were only 2 homes in Edinburgh which I felt comfortable about – Chamberlain and Cluny.

Maggie Smith

It would be impossible for us to single out individuals among you, because the care given to my aunt was absolutely outstanding. Our heartfelt thanks for loving her as your own and for allowing her to live her last years with dignity within the family atmosphere of Chamberlain

Cluny Lodge Reviews

Wonderful, caring and highly professional staff in a high quality and tranquil setting. We were very happy with the care that he received at Cluny Lodge.

Son of Resident

My mum was distraught at losing her independence and having to move into a nursing home. Everyone at Cluny Lodge worked incredibly hard to personalise her experience, listen to her, and accommodate her wishes. They were kind, professional, and willing and able to take time to chat and treat her as an individual. Everything is at a high standard - nursing and personal care, physiotherapy, catering, and the physical environment including the gardens. I am very happy to recommend Cluny Lodge to people I know.

Son of Resident/Service User

My friend reluctantly moved into Cluny Lodge after 18 months of engaging with carer providers in her own home. She has not looked back since making the move. The care she now receives has been transformational to her quality of life and her physical and mental health.

Friend of Resident

My mother has lived at Cluny Lodge for 9 months. I am delighted with the care and support she receives there. The staff team are warm and friendly and so attentive. They respect her desire to be as independent as possible and make her own choices while also gently encouraging her to keep active and involved. They are also proactive about finding the best way to manage my mum's pain or confusion. I'm kept well informed and consulted so I feel I know what's going on with my mum, even when she cannot remember herself. I can visit her any time and whenever I go in there's a gentle buzz of residents, staff and relatives around the shared spaces, with various activities happening throughout the day. Mum herself often says how lovely everything and everyone is at Cluny Lodge and, now that she cannot live at home any more, it's the next best thing to hom.

Daughter of Resident

My mother spent her last ten months in Cluny Lodge where she was looked after with great care and compassion. Mum was a midwife and district nurse before she married and when I was a child she nursed both her mother-in law and her own father in their final illnesses, so she knew how caring should be done. She had nothing but praise for all the staff at Cluny Lodge and loved chatting to everyone she met there. What struck me on my visits was how much effort each member of staff put into getting to know my mother as an individual. It was only after Mum died that I heard about the physiotherapist urging another resident's visitor to take her baby granddaughter to visit my mother in her room, because the physiotherapist remembered how much my mother loved to see babies.

Daughter of Resident

I am quoting from Mum's eulogy - Going into Cluny Lodge gave her the chance to continue with her hobbies in her last year, and we are incredibly grateful for the care and comfort she received. It also gave us all a chance just to be with her, enjoying her company and not have to look after her. She used to say to me you don't worry about me anymore do you? And I would say no. She thought of everyone at Cluny as her friends. We cannot thank you enough and there are too many names to mention here - a heartfelt thank you.

Daughter of Resident

My experience has been very good. The staff are exceptional in their care, kindness and respect. I have no complaints.

Resident

Brilliant, just what my aunt needs at the age of 104! She is treated with dignity, staff often stop to chat, take care of her individual needs, and keep my (next of kin) informed of any medical or procedural events concerning her. Food and drink is "dont know", but I am not given that option.

Nephew of Resident

Overall I feel very much at home in Cluny Lodge. Hard working staff remain cheerful and supportive. Communal areas are welcoming and attractively decorated. The gardens are a joy and beautifully maintained. Unfortunately the standard of meal preparation is inconsistent. Good quality ingredients are poorly cooked. [NB this has been addressed directly with the person and the Head Chef] Overall Cluny Lodge provides a comfortable, caring environment.

Resident

From my first meeting with the manager, I felt assured that Mum would be valued and well cared for. It was clear that this home was about 'life'. Although mum was very low when she arrived, she responded to stimulation, attended activities and joined others in the beautiful dining room for meals. Her room was always clean and bright, staff were attentive and treated her with dignity and respect. A special wheelchair was provided when her own stopped being suitable. I appreciated that the staff passed on happy stories of Mum when we visited. At the end, staff were on hand making sure she was comfortable, pain-free and passed peacefully. We were always welcome and couldn't have asked for better care.

Daughter of Resident

We are extremely grateful for the extraordinary care our relative received at Cluny Lodge Care Home. Every member of the team showed immense compassion, patience and professionalism - qualities that never wavered, even on the most challenging days. They took the time to get to know her story, habits, likes and dislikes. The environment was always calm, clean, and welcoming. The rooms felt like home, and the food was of a fantastic quality and great choices. The activity programme (shared with us by email each week) was diverse and enjoyable. We had regular updates on her well-being. The medical care was exceptional, along with the exceptional emotional support to the resident, friends and family.

My mum moved into Cluny Lodge in April 2023 and was there for 2 years. The care and treatment she received the entire time she was there was first class especially during the last 2 months when she needed a lot more help. The staff were so kind, helpful and professional and treated my mum with dignity and respect. I was so lucky to get mum a place at Cluny (I knew it had a great reputation even before she moved in) and it gave her 2 more years of good quality life and happy memories. I will always be eternally grateful to the whole team at Cluny for this.

Daughter of Resident

My father moved into Cluny Lodge in January 2024. What a wonderful place, with amazing staff. He is so lucky to have moved there, and it has taken so much worry from me as well. Everyone in our family and friends too who have visited have commented on how impressed they are with Cluny, and especially with the staff. They treat everyone with respect and I really am so grateful for the care they give my father every day.

Daughter of Resident

My father suffered 2 strokes in late 2020, and after he was discharged from hospital in Edinburgh we had to find a care home at short notice. That turned out to be Cluny Lodge and how lucky were we that it was! From Day 1, the level of care, attention and hospitality my father received was first rate. That despite dad arriving in February 2021 when COVID was in full swing. Sadly, dad passed away after a short illness in September this year. 7-8 staff attended dad's funeral which says a lot. He had been resident in Cluny for 3 and a half years.

It's hard to single out anybody but special mentions are due to the Unit Manager; Staff Nurses; and 4 other staff members in particular. Also, the Entertainment Team; the minibus driver; and a staff member on reception; - and all the Cluny Kitchen staff (dad loved his food!). All under the watchful eye of the inimitable, the Group Care Home Manager. Thank you for everything from all the family.

I have been extremely impressed with the exceptional care that my mother receives in this home. The staff and management are extremely professional, friendly and caring. My mother has settled easily and often admires her surroundings. The staff are excellent at keeping my mother comfortable and go out of their way to try to meet her every need whether it is trying out equipment, adjusting her diet or medication. The new namaste sessions which involves massages, gentle music and calming scents have been very beneficial for my mother.

They employ their own nutritionists and physiotherapists which means these needs are easily met in-house. There is always different staff popping in for a friendly chat or just making sure she is ok. The manager is very open and friendly and is very proactive at looking for any possible improvements. She is very visible within the home and knows each resident. I am kept very well informed about my mother's health and feel we are all part of one big family.

Daughter of Service User

My mother moved from home to Cluny Lodge early in 2022. She had a non severe but progressive dementia. The care and treatment she received at Cluny Lodge was exceptional from start to finish. All aspects of maintenance and care are first class. Her room was beautifully decorated, spacious and always spotlessly clean. The standard of medical and general care was gentle and thorough. I honestly cannot think of a single time when I felt anything wasn't dealt with perfectly. They staff were proactive in including the family if they had any concerns and they supported us sensitively when my mother finally left us on her 95th birthday.

Son of Service User

I had to find a care home for my mum's school friend three years ago after she had a mild stroke which meant she couldn't manage on her own at home any more. She always wanted to die of a heart attack on her beloved golf course and avoid ever having to live in a home, but a stroke caught up with her before that happened. I still can't believe how lucky I was to find her a room in Cluny Lodge Nursing Home.

From the day she moved in to Cluny Lodge, every member of staff took time to get to know her well and treated her with dignity, respect and above all, care of the highest quality. She was always very happy living there and when the time came for end of life care the staff were absolutely fantastic.Thank you all so much for looking after a dear old lady so very well.

My Dad was a resident in Cluny Lodge Care Home for nearly 3 years until 2012 and my Mum for over 1 year until 2024. Both were looked after exceptionally well and so were my family and me. I would have no hesitation in recommending Cluny Lodge to anyone needing or having relatives needing extra care. I would find it very difficult to find anywhere better than Cluny Lodge.

Daughter of Service User

My Dad came to Cluny Lodge in January for respite as my Mum was unwell.
We were as a family worried my Dad would not adjust to being in a care home !!
However, to our surprise, he loves it and is still there 6 months on and very settled.
The nurses and staff are fantastic with my Dad and he is enjoying all the attention! There are lots of activities to keep his mind busy and again the staff are so attentive to all the residents individually.
My Dad loves music so they encourage him to play his mouth organ, he loves to sing and has watched the nurses and carers all sing along with him.
It's a home from home and just like one big family.
The staff are all amazing and with my Mum too who visits most days.
The cleanliness and hygiene are impeccable.
Can't praise Cluny Lodge high enough its just excellent.

Our mum stayed at Cluny Lodge for 3.5 years. Throughout that time she received exceptional care and attention from the whole team - Nursing, Caring, Leisure, and Housekeeping staff alike. There is a high ratio of skilled and experienced staff to meet the needs of the residents. Everyone is very welcoming, with a smile. Always time for a chat. The kindness and compassion that was shown to our mum as she neared the end was second to none.

Daughter of Service User

We're extremely happy with the care provided by staff at Cluny Lodge. Their patience, kindness, and professionalism are exceptional. They have always kept us informed and involved us closely in any decisions regarding my mother's care. We're extremely grateful to them, and very glad to have found a place for my mother in Cluny Lodge.

My mother lived at Cluny Lodge for three and a half years. She was unwell when she first arrived and had some tricky medical complications, but she was quickly made to feel at home and the fantastic staff soon had her medical needs stabilised. She was very happy at Cluny, through a healthy diet, attending exercise classes and going to the many social events on offer she blossomed and relaxed into life there knowing that the staff were looking after her every need. She loved sitting in the summer sunshine in the garden and I loved doing that with her too. We also enjoyed going out to nearby coffee shops and walking in the local area. As her daughter, I was also made very welcome to visit whenever I wanted and I too was made to feel part of the Cluny family. Mum made some lovely friends from both the staff and other residents. Her time at Cluny was certainly very happy and for that, I cannot praise the staff highly enough.

My mother spent around 4 years at Cluny Lodge and in that time received a very high standard of care and support now withstanding the difficulty presented by covid. Cluny Lodge not only provides care and nursing facilities but also a wide range of activities, and organized trips and takes the trouble to celebrate Christmas and other celebrations such as Burns Night with regular celebratory etc. The building and garden are kept in very good order and there is a strong and dedicated management team.

Son of Resident

I went to Cluny Lodge for respite after an operation on my left hip and left arm after an accident. The care I received was outstanding. Constant attention to my medical needs and also excellent was the food, physiotherapy and group activities.

My mother passed away on 24th December 2023 bringing to a close some 10 years of care for both my parents. My father died, in the care of Cluny Lodge in 2019 after six years of impeccable care, kindness and professional support. My parents had adjacent rooms for three years allowing more time together despite their illnesses and frailty. Mother enjoyed four more years of a happy and fulfilled life passing peacefully at the age of 95. There can't be anywhere else that provided such a caring environment delivered by special and exceptional care staff and managers.

We looked at quite a few care homes before choosing Cluny Lodge. The atmosphere is welcoming and homely, yet all areas are pristine and have more than a touch of luxury. The nursing staff and carers are all skilled, friendly, patient and compassionate, but everyone I have come across who works there has a ready smile and a cheerful ‘hello’, which is so important. My husband has quite complex needs and they are all met extremely well. His room is stylish and spacious and was newly decorated before he moved in. Friends and family who visit are all impressed too. It was a hard decision to make, but the family and I now all agree it was definitely the right one.

Wife of Resident

I cannot recommend Cluny Lodge more highly. My sister lived there for 14 months during which she was cared for by a wonderful, compassionate, caring and highly professional team. They worked hard to ensure that her quality of life was as good as it could be, encouraging and supporting her to attend the many different activities that are on offer, and ensuring that she was comfortable and eating good nutritious food that she would enjoy. Visitors were always welcome. Our family lives at a distance, so the staff took great trouble to ensure that we were kept up to date at all times, and to get her set up with video calls on her tablet so that we could keep in touch.

It was a huge comfort to us all, in the last days, to know that she was being nursed and cared for by a wonderful team that had known her since she first moved in. Her room was lovely, bright and cheery, and always spotlessly clean.

Thank you to everyone in the Balmoral team at Cluny.

My mother-in-law was with you for nearly five years. Your dedication to ensuring she was looked after to the highest level was amazing to observe. Nothing was too much. She was comfortable, entertained, fed with delicious nutritious smoothies and we the family were looked after too, especially in her final days. We cannot thank you all enough. Thank you just isn't enough. The home was warm, welcoming and clean. The staff at all levels were courteous, kind, caring and definitely dedicated to providing the best care ever.

Daughter-in-law of Resident

Particularly nice care home. Very attentive, caring and friendly staff. Dad was well looked after in a warm and top quality home. My dad's family were able to relax and feel confident that he was being well cared for.

Realising that it was time to help Mum move into a Care Home felt overwhelming, a feeling that Marcela empathised with completely whilst reassuring me of all that her Team could provide. That Mum had a largely contented, settled twenty one months at Cluny Lodge was in no small part the result of Mum’s positivity, adaptability and friendly, inquisitive nature. Her move in many ways increased her independence and gave Mum the opportunity to form new friendships amongst both the staff and residents. Cluny Lodge was very much a new chapter for Mum as she became more confident and outgoing enjoying new experiences such as rides in the trishaw and having the chance to resume previous interests such as exercise classes. Mum would speak of the fun she had at these activities. The staff represented Mum at the end ensuring that she spent her last few days surrounded by staff who she loved and who knew exactly how she liked to be cared for. Their sensitivity to her and our family during Mum’s final hours was invaluable. Cluny Lodge welcomed both Mum and her family into their community, a community I now miss. My heart felt thanks to you all.

My mother, who passed away recently, spent the last two and a half years of her life in Cluny Lodge, where she was very well looked after. The staff I met or spoke to over the phone were always extremely helpful, and I am sure made my mother's stay there as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

Cluny Lodge supported my mum in care for over eight years, involving her in the many activities provided, encouraging participation in discussions and group mealtimes, which kept her mobile and interested in others and current affairs. Mum felt safe and developed close and friendly relationships with many of the staff, which was so important for her, and for the wider family to see. Mum was always encouraged to share any concerns she might have and these were heard and addressed. Latterly Cluny Lodge provided superb support and compassionate care when her health declined. It has been a comfort and relief to know that Mum was so well cared for and we are so grateful to all the staff for their kind and professional approach.

Cluny Lodge has been outstanding in its professional approach and the warmth and friendliness of all its staff.

I am very happy with the care my aunt receives at Cluny Lodge. The staff are always positive and cheerful and they go out of their way to support residents and relatives and to solve any issues. My aunt is happy and feels safe and she often tells me how kind everyone is.

Cluny Lodge is an outstanding care home with exceptional standards. Mum had been living in her own flat, with carers visiting, but with her vascular dementia increasingly struggling to cope. When viewing homes we had a number of criteria including a warm, safe environment, qualified nursing and support staff, the experience of caring for clients with dementia, activities and the ability for Mum to feel like she was in her own home, not just a care home. We also wanted a place that could care for Mum through to the end of life. We have been so impressed with the warmth, expertise and calm, relaxed approach of the staff. All staff treated Mum with the utmost respect and tailored care to her individual requirements. They took time to find out about her family life before and built fabulous relationships with her and us as a family. Her room was beautiful, clean and with a lovely outlook. She was so happy there and we are so grateful to the team at Cluny Lodge.

Daughter of Resident

When it was time for Mum to move into a home we visited a few in the local area and Cluny Lodge Care Home made an instant impression on us.

We were made to feel very welcome during our initial visit and again when we brought Mum in to have a look. The home was set up to feel homely and any staff we encountered on these early visits couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant.

In the five years she lived at Cluny, she received excellent care from committed staff who genuinely appreciated her personality and sense of humour. Indeed, we got to know many of them well and saw the relationships they'd built with Mum first-hand. This was never more evident than towards the end of her life where the care and attention she received was all we could've hoped for.

We know Mum was happy and comfortable during her stay at Cluny, we were able to enjoy our time with her knowing she was safe and cared for and there were no family regrets about the original decision for Mum to move into Cluny all those years ago.

Son of Service User

Impossible to speak highly enough of Cluny Lodge - it changed my perceptions of what life in a care home could be. The decision to come into a home was traumatic for my relative who was shy and used to a solitary, academic existence but they absolutely got to the heart of who he was and respected his wish for privacy and quiet. This last period of his life spent at the home had value and dignity. Every single staff member was patient and accommodating - from the fundamentals of good food and basic care right through to the conversations and social interactions. Staff found out his interests and hobbies and kept him engaged and alert. Their care towards the very end of his life was exceptional. There was genuine mutual fondness and he was kept so comfortable and peaceful. Communications with us in any form were always great and we (and his other friends who were always made so welcome) genuinely miss seeing the staff now he is no longer with us.

I am delighted with the standard of care at Cluny Lodge and it provided the perfect solution to my father’s needs. The level of understanding and patience that the staff have shown across the board has been exemplary, and because my father has dementia, this is no easy task. In addition, they are so friendly, polite and engaging towards me when I visit. I would say they are personally invested in my father’s welfare and genuinely concerned that he is as happy and healthy as it’s possible to be, given his deteriorating health. I would also like to say how impressed I was with their management of the pandemic and were able to navigate that tricky balance between safety and mental well-being perfectly. This is just one example of how efficient and well organised Cluny Lodge is ; I could not ask for any more!

My brother and I cannot praise the staff at Cluny Lodge Care Home highly enough for the care they provided our mother. Everyone treated Mum with great dignity and respect and took time to learn how she liked things done which was very important to her. Of great importance was the consistency of care and most of the senior and nursing staff, as well as many carers, remained unchanged over five years which, we believe, is indicative of the standards in the home. The surroundings and cleanliness in Cluny are of a very high standard as are the laundry facilities and food. The gardens are beautifully tended, all of which provide the residents with a truly homely environment. The activities staff provide many activities and they transform Cluny into a wonderland for Christmas, Easter and other holidays. As well as the care given to Mum, my brother and I were given excellent support during Mum's end-of-life care. We thank everyone and truly appreciate everything that was done for our family.

Daughter of Resident

My brother was a resident in Cluny Lodge Care Home for six years, as a result of having a rare neurological condition. The staff cared for him with compassion and a high level of professionalism through to his final days. He felt loved and supported which was so important to the family. Nothing was too much bother. It was very hard to put my brother into care but Cluny Lodge was undoubtedly the right choice. I highly recommend Cluny Lodge.

It was not easy to let go of my mum into the care of others. However, I recently realised that I have a warm feeling inside every time I leave her due to the trust I have in the staff who care for her. After a recent stay in hospital, neither my mum nor I could wait until she got back 'home' to her friends and carers. When she did arrive back, the staff were as pleased to see her as she was to see them! Testimony to the way she and I feel about her new 'family'.

Cluny Lodge Care Home became my home in October 2021 and I am very happy here. It's different from being at home on my own but I enjoy the company and the chance to chat, make friends and take part in the different activities. I especially enjoy the exercise classes and minibus outings and the staff here are so kind and happy to care for me. As an only child, I am getting used to living in a big family and learning to wait my turn for attention! But I feel safe, secure and loved in my new 'home'!

At Cluny Lodge Care Home my father receives the most attentive, compassionate, individualised care his family could possibly hope for. The staff work as an excellent team; they communicate really well with my father, with his family and with each other. The staff always seem to have time to listen to him, to help him in any way that he needs including reassurance and friendly companionship; they have fun with him and they support and encourage him throughout the days and nights when he is wakeful. The staff treat my father with respect; they allow him full dignity and they refer to him to find out what he needs, how best to fulfil his needs and to allow him to make decisions for himself, in as far that is as possible. The staff, the whole team, treat him as a friend and as part of a family; he responds really well to their care and attention. The staff make my father feel safe, respected, valued and cherished; we all feel extremely well supported. I really appreciate all that they do.

Mum received the highest standard of care. From entering the home and retaining as much independence as possible through to palliative care and end of life support. As a family, we were all supported through the dying process. At all times the staff at Cluny Lodge Care Home knew who we were when we phoned and Mum had a consistent care team - always the same staff. All at Cluny Lodge from domestics, care, nursing and kitchen clearly work as a team and all supported us and gave Mum a peaceful and dignified passing. This model of care is what all must aspire to and should be considered as the ideal in the developing national care service.

Daughter of Resident

My mum spent her last ten months at Cluny Lodge and the care provided was excellent in every respect. The team were always so kind, caring and compassionate. Towards the end, we were allowed longer and more frequent visits which meant so much to my mum and us. Many thanks for everything.

My mother's care at Cluny Lodge is impeccable. Although she arrived post-surgery in the middle of lockdown just before Christmas, nothing was too much trouble to help her settle in and to reassure our family. Her basic care is wonderful but more importantly, she is treated as an individual with genuine interest, warmth and respect.

Cluny Lodge is a lovely care home. My mum is happy and well cared for. Throughout the pandemic, they have excelled themselves. There is a wide range of activities for the residents and the staff are friendly, professional and approachable. I would have no hesitation in recommending Cluny Lodge to others.

Daughter of Resident

Everything from the upkeep to the attentive staff at Cluny Lodge is superb. The friendly reception is always on hand to help with queries and every time I am seated outside with my grandmother, staff would always greet you when they walked by. The standards here are excellent. I would recommend to anyone.

My mother has been at Cluny Lodge for a few years now and is very happy. The staff are very professional and always go above and beyond. I am particularly impressed that they have worked tirelessly to keep the residents safe and happy this past year, in such difficult circumstances. I can't fault it in any way.

Daughter of Resident

Cluny Lodge has been so fantastic during the pandemic. The staff are all so caring and have taken such good care of Mum for so many years. She is really happy there, having made lots of new friends, and even reuniting with old ones, also residents at Cluny! Even though I have not been able to fly to the UK this past year due to the Coronavirus, I have never felt anxious about Mum as she is in such wonderful hands. Communication with Cluny nursing staff is excellent, and they are always ready to go above and beyond to fulfil any requests the family may have for Mum. I’ve already told my daughter to put my name on the Cluny waiting list when my time comes!! Thank you, everyone. We really appreciate all you do for Mum.

The care provided by Cluny Lodge for my wife has been exemplary in every way. The team involved has been attentive, careful and loving. When required, medical attention has been prompt and professional. The accommodation is tasteful and well-appointed. The atmosphere throughout is upbeat and friendly, a testimony to leadership.

We would like to thank you all very much for making mum's 100th birthday so wonderful and special despite restrictions and during these strange times. We wish to say thanks for looking after her and making us feel relieved that she's under your care.

I do miss everyone at Cluny and everything that was done for me. Also the company and the walking space with, of course, all the activities laid on for us so cheerfully. My main reason for writing is to send everyone at Cluny my heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care I had during my stay. I was, and still am, in awe of the immense amount of organisation and hard work by everyone, management and staff, to ensure that the residents felt safe and cared for in such difficult times. Whatever problems there were in achieving all that I always felt that Cluny Lodge was a happy ship.

I know how much care and love the whole team gave dad. He was in such a lovely caring and supportive environment in the last few years of his life. Going on trips several times a week- with tea and cakes the real objectives! Lots of activities indoors too. I can still recall doing 'keep fit' one afternoon with the gang. It was this knowledge of being surrounded by care and concern that I knew dad was content, cared for and happy.

Daughter of Resident

A holistic programme to keep you active, well and healthy when you can. Care, compassion, dignity, respect at all times, special at the end. Gratitude and heartfelt thanks to all the team who cared for dad.

Son of Resident

My mum spent the last 21 months of her life in Cluny Lodge and the level of service and care provided by all of the staff was fantastic. There are a variety of activities every day and mum got back into knitting and baking - both skills she excelled at when she was able at home but had lost the will to do prior to moving into Cluny. I felt that if she needed someone to talk to then the staff would ensure they spent time with her and nothing was ever a problem. As mum slipped away in the last week there were always a number of family members attending (mainly her children and grandchildren), often up to 6 or 7 of us, and the home set us up in a small lounge to enable us to spend time together as a family. They very kindly provided us with hot and cold food and drinks throughout the week. We’ve all said that moving mum into Cluny Lodge, once it was clear she was unable to cope at home on her own, was one of the best decisions we ever made. I hope my kids put me in here when its time!

Son of Resident

I wish to thank you for your excellent care for all the residents. In addition, I want to note that you are continually going above and beyond your call of duty to show your love and your care for everything. On the occasion of the 100th birthday, yesterday, you marvellously provided for everything for a wonderful party. All who attended the part were very favourably impressed by the provisions and the way the party was accommodated. I want to say a big thanks for all you did to make it a meaningful and wonderful celebration.

Friend of Resident

Thank you all so much for looking after mum for the last 6 years. It meant a lot to us knowing that she was being looked after so well at Cluny. All the staff are so friendly and despite it now being 6 months since mum died I still think of you all with great affection.

To the Staff at Cluny Lodge- owners, nurses, carers, chefs, cleaners, activities, manager, receptionists, and any other staff I may have missed-you are all important people to me.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you for all your tender care of the residents at Cluny Lodge. My very special thanks for all you did to help make the 100th birthday celebrations a great success. We would not have been able to have such a great party without your help.

A big thank you for all you do , especially for my friend.

Thank you very much for your care of our patent. I think he had absolutely excellent care whilst he was with you and I would like you to pass on my thanks to the staff who looked after him. I know he and his family were very impressed with the standard of care, which was of course no surprise to me.

My Mum, Ailsa loved the Halloween party this afternoon and even rang me to tell me about it. She said it was great fun! Thanks for all you and the activities team do!

I have been pleased to be welcomed into this beautiful residence. I have visited my elderly friend only twice recently. My elderly friend enjoys many aspects of her life in the home, mentioning poetry readings, disliking being brought to sit in front of TV, appreciating physiotherapy and serious conversation.

Friend of a Resident

My mother was declining with dementia when she moved into Cluny Lodge. From the outset, the staff have been amazing, respectful, caring, cheerful, they were there for both Mum and me. The accommodation is very comfortable and homely. It is an awful time when a loved one has to move into care. But I am so glad that I was able to choose Cluny Lodge for Mum.

Daughter of a Resident

My mother fell and broke both her arms. After two weeks in hospital, she moved into Cluny Lodge. Her care was excellent and with the support of the nursing team, care workers and physiotherapy team she healed her bones, built her muscles and decided to try living at home again. So thanks to all the staff for making this possible and maybe one day she'll be back.

Daughter of a Respite Resident

My father has been at Cluny Lodge for four years now with progressively less mobility and abilities. The progression has been dealt with very well by all the staff at Cluny Lodge. As is his worsening dementia. The staff are caring and affectionate, dad is lucky to be able to afford a home where the staff-patient ratio is high and they have time to stop and talk to him and still have time for all their other duties.

Daughter of Resident

Excellent standard of care. A holistic approach to care, staff to resident ratio high, excellent continuity of care. Dad has easily integrated into his new home, is very settled, has made new friends and his care needs are well taken care of.

Son of Resident

The care my mother received at Cluny Lodge was an exemplar of excellence and could not be bettered. I do not use these words lightly; my opinion is based on both my many years as a District Nursing Sister and as a daughter. The loving care my mother received there was truly exceptional; in very late stages of dementia my Mum always seemed settled and happy and with her dignity maintained. Her face lit up whenever a member of staff came into her room and it was clear that the staff were truly fond of her, getting to know her personality and what was best for her as an individual.

The staff were equally as kind and compassionate to me, always asking after my welfare and keeping me informed of any change in my Mum's condition or care. There was a lot of social activity and rarely did I ever find my Mum alone in her room. Whilst it is the staff that is the foundation of what makes a Nursing Home good it is also worth mentioning the 5* food and furnishings.

Daughter of Resident

The staff and management at Cluny Lodge provided outstanding care and kindness to my wife over the 27 months she was in the home dying from Motor Neurone Disease. The staff always greeted family and friends with a friendly smile, they found time to chat and joke with my wife and to exchange banter with us. They kept her spirits up when she felt low. Food and accommodation was excellent. The other residents were friendly and supportive. I personally was glad of their help and kindness which sustained me over the months when I visited my wife daily.

Husband of Resident

My father's experience in Cluny Lodge has been extremely positive. The staff have gone that extra mile in providing first class care and support and he has especially enjoyed their cheery banter. The activities have also been a hit, from poetry evenings to trips out on the bus, he has been there. As a fussy eater, he has regularly sang the praises of the food. As a relative, I have been delighted at the way the home has kept me appraised of developments which ensures that I can relax knowing he is in very capable hands. I would highly recommend Cluny Lodge, particularly for the staff and the care they provide.

Dear friends at Cluny Lodge, Thank you for all the good care you offered my aunt Kit in the 4 years she was with you. The care which she received was, in my view, nothing short of outstanding. You gave my aunt her life back. You offered her a family. You treated her with the respect due to her and included her, and me, in all your decisions. She was dealt with as the unique individual she undoubtedly was and you allowed her to feel that she still mattered in her later years. You have set the bar high. You have done extremely well. Thank you and your team, once again for your exemplary care.

Reverend Tom Gordon

To all staff members and management at Cluny Lodge, when my dear wife died on the evening of 18th July, she could not have left us in a better way. Her end was peaceful and serene, which reflected the incredibly kind and loving care and attention you have always given her. All the things you did for her showed not only your professionalism, but also your fondness for her and she loved you too. I cannot thank you enough. I must also thank you for making me so welcome and the happy friendships that developed from my regular visits.

Mr Leonard Stuckey

I want to say a very big thank you to all the staff at Cluny Lodge, who were involved in caring for my mother Betty. I would not have wished for better care for my mum and support for myself.

There was always a friendly smile from all the staff, which made me feel welcome and comfortable to be visiting mum.

Dear Marion, it has been a pleasure and a joy to sing with the residents of Cluny Lodge and Chamberlain Care Homes. We are made to feel so welcome and get such a high from us all joining together to experience music. We do appreciate the staff fully participating and helping. There is care and warmth - and we love coming! A big thank you to you and your staff.

....Thank you (Mrs Rees) and all the staff at Cluny Lodge for making yesterday`s event special for Beryl and for all of us.

Being a cousin of the late Nancy Mearns I cannot let her death pass without sending you a letter of gratitude to all at Cluny Lodge for the wonderful care given to her.

I visited Nancy on several occasions and was always impressed by the atmosphere at Cluny Lodge and the rapport between the staff and the residents.

I know that Nancy was extremely well looked after and I thank you and all your staff for all that you have done for her over the last six or seven years.

The family will always be grateful for the loving care given to Nancy - we are most appreciative of the staff`s dedication.

Mrs Ann Wilkinson (Nancy's Cousin)

My Mum was a resident in Cluny Lodge Care Home for 3 years and 4 months. From the outset the staff and management could not have done more to enable Mum to settle and ultimately have an improved quality of life whilst living there. Mum, although very reluctant in the beginning to stay at Cluny as she wanted to go home, soon began to feel safe and enjoy the company of other residents and staff. Cluny offered us, as a family extra years of quality, fun times with Mum which would not have been possible for her at home. Mum`s health fluctuated a lot over this period and staff took great care to ensure she was consulted by her GP and other services as required. She enjoyed the food, outings and day activities on offer and the general buzz of activity within the home. Staff genuinely seemed not only to care for but also care about Mum which was extremely important to us. I visited Mum at all different times of day/night and was always encouraged by the respect and dignity showed to residents by staff.

Sadly Mum died 4 weeks ago and I will always be grateful to Cluny staff for their dedication to making this so dignified and peaceful and enabling her to die there and not be transferred to hospital. The care shown to Mum and us was exceptional and will never be forgotten. I would not hesitate to recommend Cluny Lodge as a nursing home of choice.

Fiona B

You run an extremely efficient nursing home which I describe to patients as the Rolls Royce of nursing homes. I shall miss going there to visit.

When my mother fell and broke her hip on returning from hospital she was finding living on her own very difficult. Her GP and Social Care Officer advised that she would be better moving into a residential care home. My sister and I started looking into various homes in Edinburgh. Cluny Lodge shone out from all the rest viewed. We then put in an application but unfortunately at the time they were full but within days, a room came free and we were offered it. Within days we moved my other into the care home, some three years ago. We have been more than satisfied with the care provided, indeed if you had a category above `Excellent` they would fall into that category.

Cluny Lodge is such a lovely home. The staff are very empathetic, cheery, and skilled. The place is very busy with many many activities including yoga, films, concerts, poetry, crafts, even therapeutic miniature ponies have been known to visit. Nothing is too much bother and the staff seem to genuinely care about the residents.

The rooms are all different, my Mum`s is quite small but there are some really large ones, it`s just the luck of the draw and of course, the larger ones are more expensive. Mum complains a bit about the food but there is always a choice; visitors can eat with residents free of charge and I`ve always found it to be good.

Staff asking my relative if there is anything that she would like done differently, about her meals and location for eating them, her clothing, the activities and facilities that are available for my relative, how staff/carers help her.

My relative cannot remember things but is very happy with her care, meals, laundry and is helped to a few of the social activities that appeal. I am pleased to see my relative weekly and she looks well, is wearing her own clean clothes and the resident`s room is clean and tidy as is the ensuite.

Very high standards.

I received a very warm welcome for my respite stay. Staff warm and friendly nothing seems too much trouble. Also, visitors impressed with surroundings, staff and food. I would be very happy to return. Would suggest a lockable drawer or safe in bedroom for valuables.

The standard of nursing at Cluny Lodge is exceptional. My mother has advanced dementia and is treated with respect and compassion by a nursing team committed to fulfilling her physical and emotional needs. My father has been welcomed into the Cluny Lodge Community - he frequently has his meals with the residents and feels part of my mother`s life. The staff are always happy to talk to us about any of our concerns and we can visit at any time. There is a good activity programme although unfortunately, my mother is no longer able to participate.
